Schaub Moves Past Welles to Top of Bates USA

Until recently, Julie Welles of West Simsbury, Connecticut, who is trained by Missy Clark, has had a lock on the top spot in the Bates USA Equitation Ranking since her 2005 year-end Gold Medal win in November. After finishing second in the year-end competition, Maria Schaub of Holmdel, New Jersey has finally challenged Welles’ hold on the highest ranking. Schaub’s lead is 106 points as of March 10. HJN’s April’s Barn of the Month - Sandy Point Stables

Sandy Point Stables is one of the last remaining parts of the original Vanderbilt Estate, a 280 acre complex that stretched from East Main Rd. (Rte. 138) to the water. Constructed almost 100 years ago by Reggie Vanderbilt, the imposing structure contained 24 stalls, an indoor arena, groom’s quarters and a lounge for Reggie and his guests. (Read on…)
