If you live in the upstate New York, you might want to take advantage of a community event organized by locals in support of Brian Weigert. The “Buck Off” as it has been called will be held this Sunday April 2, 2025 at Lehman Farms, Wilmarth Rd., Pittsford, New York.
Event: Combined Test (Dressage & Stadium)
Levels: Baby Novice - Training
Entry Costs: $55 per entry
Brian was always quick to help others, stranger or friend, which was what brought him to his window that night, as he wondered why sheriff’s deputies were in front of his neighbor’s house. His neighbor was out-of-town and Brian had been taking care of their dog.
Brian went to the front of his property and inquired as to the reason for the deputies’ presence. He was told they were searching for a man who had abandoned a stolen vehicle and was on foot.
As he stood there talking with a deputy a truck pulled out from his neighbor’s property coming towards him and the deputy. Brian tried to get out of the way but was hit by the truck, pinning him in the ditch alongside his property.
In a matter of minutes, he had gone from preparing for bed, to fighting for his life in a frenetic ambulance ride to the trauma unit at Strong Memorial Hospital. His accident left him paralyzed from the waist down.
He spent ten hours in surgery at Strong and many weeks of rehab at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia, a hospital specializing in these types of catastrophic injuries. Brian has made tremendous strides in his recovery. One of the biggest factors in his progress had been a therapeutic bicycle provided to him at the Shepherd Center. The bike works similar to an exercise bike found in a gym, with one big difference. The bike is hooked up to the muscles of the paralyzed legs, sending electric currents through the muscles. The stimulation causes the muscles to work and avoids the rapid atrophy that is so common with these types of injuries.
Unfortunately, no such piece of equipment exists in New York State to benefit Brian and others facing similar injury. This bike, the Restorative Therapies RT-300, is crucial to his continued recovery and well-being.
Friends and family of Brian Weigert want to bring this bike home to him to ensure the amazing progress he has achieved thus far may continue, and that Brian may one day walk again. With the help of generous people like you, we hope to accomplish this! Hope to see you at the Buck Off on April 2.
