Lake Placid Horse Shows Return, June 27 – July 9

With So Much Going On In Lake Placid, This Is One Horse Show That Can’t Be Missed

The Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows return to the beautiful Adirondack Mountains, June 27 – July 9. There is good reason that so many people continue to return to Lake Placid year after year and the horse show is only part of it.

Not many horse shows can combine a world-class event with small town charms and continually bring together families, celebrities, Olympians, and an array of champions like the Lake Placid Horse Shows.

Those who have made the Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows the traditional start to their summer know the wonderful feeling of being in Lake Placid—finishing their show day with a stroll down Main Street with an ice cream cone in hand, taking a carriage ride around Mirror Lake, or dining in one of the many outstanding restaurants one finds in Lake Placid.

What sets the Lake Placid Horse Shows apart from all other horse shows is not only the incredible beauty of the village of Lake Placid and the surrounding Adirondack Region, but the shows and show grounds itself.

Well-known as host of two Olympic Winter Games, Lake Placid offers a natural beauty with a chance for outdoor activity that is just as spectacular in the summer as it is in winter. Whether it’s fishing, swimming, golfing, hiking, canoeing, camping, biking or any of myriad other activities, it is hard to imagine anyone not thoroughly enjoying their two-week stay at the Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows.

Lake Placid attracts America’s absolute best show jumping riders like Olympic veteran and eight-time American Grandprix Association Rider of the Year Margie Goldstein Engle and 2004 Athens Olympic team Gold Medalists Chris Kappler and McLain Ward. Often on hand to watch these top stars are stars of a different type, stars that in recent years have included Glenn Close, Paula Zahn, Lou Dobbs, Ahmad Rashad and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. They single out Lake Placid as a horse show they don’t want to miss because there’s no better way to start summer than with two weeks in one of the world’s choice locations.

Visitors to Lake Placid can take an Olympic tour to view the facilities from the 1980 Olympic Winter Games. Lake Placid also features the Verizon Sports Complex, a multi-facility training and competition site for world-class cross country skiing, biathlon, bobsled, skeleton and luge athletes. Visitors can watch training, the annual Fourth of July ski jump competition and can also take a Trolley Tour of the complex. It’s even possible to take a ride down the Olympic bobsled run!

Few towns welcome horse show exhibitors quite like Lake Placid. Horse show flags line Main Street as village merchants fly them in front of their stores. Merchants also get into the spirit, and demonstrate their “horse sense” and artistic flair, with their displays in the Annual Equestrian Window Decorating Contest held concurrently with the horse shows. The equestrian-themed window displays are popular with horse show participants, spectators, and shoppers as local businesses welcome members of the horse show community to town.

The horse shows include two AGA Grandprix Series events—the $60,000 Budweiser Grandprix of Lake Placid CSI 3* Presented by RV Sales of Broward on Sunday, July 2 and the $60,000 Hermès I Love New York Grandprix CSI 3* on Saturday, July 8. In addition, the 2006 Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows also offer North American League, Washington International Horse Show, World Champion Hunter Rider, and Show Jumping Hall of Fame classes.

One Response to “Lake Placid Horse Shows Return, June 27 – July 9”

Lake Placid is always one of my favorites! The drive through the Adirondacks is spectacular and the atmosphere of the show and the town center positioned around Mirror lake is always so inviting and lively.

I am hoping to get back up there this summer…
