Sussex, NB – June 29, 2025 - The Princess Louise Park Show Centre in Sussex, NB, will be the venue for a special training clinic for junior riders in the province who participate in four different competitive disciplines. Four clinicians, all Elite Canadian athletes and Equine Canada Certified Coaches, will deliver the training sessions over two days, Saturday and Sunday July 8th and 9th.
The Junior Development Clinic series is sponsored by the New Brunswick Equestrian Association, with the support of Dressage New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Western Horse Association. This is the first cross-discipline clinic of its type ever held in the Province.
In addition to mounted riding lessons, the clinic will include a series of informative lectures including “Horse Show Parents 101” – what every parent of a horse-crazy kid should know about the do’s and don’ts on horse show day!
Instructors for the event include:
Dressage – Katie Buckle, formerly of Darlings Island, NB, now head trainer at Aragon Stables in Hamilton, ON;
Eventing – Lori Leach, originally from NB, trained and competed in Ontario and Germany, now returned to NB where she and her husband Jeff have developed a new Eventing facility;
Hunter / Jumper – Valerie Phelan, Geary, NB, one of a very few Level 2 Hunter Jumper Certified Coaches in the Region, active coach, former Chair of the National English Coaching Committee (Equine Canada) and currently course conductor and examiner for Level 1 and Level 2 coaches;
Western – John Perkins, Hampton, NB, co-owner of John and Wendy Perkins Quarter Horses (Butternut Stables), active trainer, competitor and instructor for thirty years and member of the American Quarter Horse Association Professional Horseman’s Association, among others.
There is a modest ($5.00) admission fee to watch the demonstrations and lessons. All money raised will go towards funding a similar clinic (at no cost to the Junior Riders) in 2007.
