In the new Rotterdam Agterberg-sandfooting Olympic and European champion and world cup winners Anky van Grunven an KeltecSalinero reached for new heights and achieved a world record score. “There was no way that I was going to make a mistake”, Anky van Grunsven said after her fabulous ride that was rewarded with the world record score of 81,33%. “Both Keltec Salinero and me were in the zone. I even had to remember to stop doing my last piaffe and go out again, I wasn’t counting for the steps anymore.”
When Anky saw her marvelous score at the scoreboard she wasn’t surprised at all. “No, it felt so good all the time. Everything was optimal. When you want to know my worries, it’s only one thing: probably Salinero is too soon too good!”
The ‘old’ world record score was for Isabell Werth and Satchmo, ridden in Stuttgart at the 19th of November 2005: 79.96%. Now Isabell reached for the runner up position riding Warum Nicht FRH.
Salinero breathtaking for the judges
The chairman of the judges Swiss Beatrice Burchler-Keller was in the zone as well while judging, just like all the other judges of the judges panel. “He took my breath away. I have never seen Salinero like this before!”, she said. “He was always in a super position. He was always engaged. I didn’t realize that we were going towards a new world record score, but I knew my score had to be over 80%. I gave so many high notes. I rewarded Anky with a 10 for riding, she did a wonderful job. Also one transition piaffe-passage I rewarded with a 10.”
Wim Ernes rewarded the transitions piaffe-passage of Salinero all the times with 10.
Trainers point of view: Rotterdam CHIO good test for WEG
Sjef Janssen as the trainer of Anky van Grunsven and Keltec Salinero said he was very happy with the chance to compete at the CHIO Rotterdam with the new improved circumstances, with the dressage arena in the main arena in the sand. “Two weeks before at Outdoor Gelderland we had a hard time with Keltec Salinero with our first outdoor show with a lot of distractions. Now this new build arena in Rotterdam is wide and open, and not spooky at all for the horses because the audience is far away. This is a nice test to prepare for the WEG, although in Aachen it all will still be much more immense of course.”
