Colts Neck, New Jersey - June 16, 2025 – Beacon Hill Show Stables, owned by Frank and Stacia Madden, hosts the fourth annual Wachovia Jumper Classic. The show opened today with weather in the high eighties, a nice breeze, and not a cloud in the sky. The one ring horse show has some 240 entries and runs from 8:00a.m. until its finish late in the afternoon.
The course is set on one of the most beautiful “old fashioned” grass rings in the United States. All of the classic natural obstacles needed to create a real Derby course are built into the field.
The Wachovia Jumper Classic at Beacon Hill Show Stables has a USEF Show Jumping Talent Search class, as well as the Washington International Horse Show Equitation classes for the Equitation riders. The rest of the classes are all for Jumpers. There is a Children’s Jumper Division with $3,500 in prize money, an Adult Jumper Division with $3,500 in prize money, a Junior/Amateur -Owner Division with $18,500 in prize money, and an Open Division with $65,000 in prize money. The Open Division has 1.30 Meter class on Friday, and a 1.35 Meter class on Saturday. The big awards are given on Sunday, with a $10,000 NAL Speed Derby Table III and a $50,000 Budweiser Grand Prix.
The course designer is Richard Jeffery of Bournemouth, England. “I love working with this field. The turf is wonderful, and there is a large variety of obstacles available for me to build with,” Jeffery said. “I plan on using all of them in the Derby on Sunday,” he warned.
It is rare to see this type of a one- ring event held on grass today. The Jumper, as well as the Equitation, riders have an opportunity to jump fences that they might not encounter anywhere else, except for Equitation Finals and competitions abroad.
The Wachovia Jumper Classic is managed by Oliver Kennedy, of Brookeville, MD. Kennedy, along with the Madden Family, add a touch of class and hospitality to the event, with their warm welcomes and accommodating facilities. “This is a fun show to manage. There is no pressure to fill five rings with entries. The show does not make its money from the exhibitors,” Kennedy said. “The prize money for the classes is donated by sponsors. This allows us to put on a great event and just enjoy it,” he smiled.
