(SPRUCE MEADOWS, Calgary, AB): It’s going to be a great weekend for the second leg of the five-week Spruce Meadows Summer Tour. Current reports point to sunny skies and warm, dry weather, perfect for taking in all the action at the “Continental” Tournament.
The “Continental” features a wide variety of competitions taking place on the west side of the property. It’s the perfect opportunity for Show Jumping fans to see who’s new and up and coming in the sport.
But there is also plenty in store for the seasoned competitors at the “Continental”. With more than $300,000 in prize money up for grabs, competition is sure to be fierce. Meadows on the Green will host the week’s feature events such as the Husky Cup on Thursday night, and the Devon Cup on Friday, both starting at 7:15 pm. Be sure to get there early to get the best seat.
Competition heats up on Saturday afternoon in the Nexen Cup, where Russian Rider Ljubov Kochetova will be aiming for her second victory in the Summer Tour. The highlight of the Tournament will be the CN Performance World Cup on Sunday afternoon. Norman Dello Joio (USA) will continue on his quest for his $1 Million bonus in this second leg of the CN Precision Series. Some of North Americas’ top riders, including Beezie Madden (USA), Eric Lamaze (CAN) and Ian Millar (CAN) will be there in an attempt to prevent a second victory by Dello Joio.
The stakes are higher than just the prize money for both Canadian and Mexican riders. The results of this week’s competition will finalize the team members for both countries who will travel to Aachen, Germany in August for the World Equestrian Games.
Come out and enjoy all the great Show Jumping action in a casual and relaxed setting, where you can get up close and personal with the athletes. For further information regarding the “Continental” Tournament schedules, visit www.sprucemeadows.com.
