It’s Gold for both Germany and the Netherlands at the European Young Riders

Ermelo - The fight for the medals during the team competition for Juniors (up to 18 years of age) at the FEI European Championships Dressage for Juniors and Young Riders on the show grounds of the Royal Dutch Equestrian Federation in Ermelo, The Netherlands remained exciting to the end. Finally, it was Germany who won the gold medal followed by the Dutch team who won silver.

The bronze medal went to Denmark. And so, history repeats itself – the distribution of the team medals for the young dressage riders was exactly the same as last year during the European Championships in Portugal: the Germans won the Juniors team competition with The Netherlands ranking second and the Dutch Young Riders won gold followed by the German team. It was the 24th medal for the German Juniors in the history of the European Championships for the youth.

Sanneke Rothenberger, daughter of ex-international dressage riders Gonnelien Rothenberger-Gordijn and Sven Rothenberger rode a fantastic test this afternoon on her beautiful black gelding Deveraux which was honored with 74.919% and the lead in the individual competition for Juniors. Second in the individual test is the Dutch Sanne van Grotel riding Melvin followed by another German rider, Charlott-Maria Schürmann on World of Dreams.

The European Championships will be continued with the individual competition. Saturday will see the homage to Incredible, the 19-year old stallion ridden by Michelle van Lanen. Incredible is participating on this 8th championships and has won more medals for The Netherlands on European Championships for the youth than any other horse.

The Dutch Young Riders (aged 16 to 21) have won the gold medal in the team competition during the FEI European Championships Dressage for Juniors and Young Riders on the show grounds of the Royal Dutch Equestrian Federation in Ermelo, The Netherlands. The German team won the silver medal followed by the Danish Young Riders who won bronze. It was the seventh medal for the Dutch Young Riders in the history of these European Championships and the third gold medal in sequence.

The predominance of the Dutch team was overwhelming. Prior to the fourth rider for the Dutch team, Lotje Schoots, entering the arena, the gold medal was already guaranteed. And as the cherry on the cake, Lotje Schoots riding Torricelli earned 73.316% taking over the lead from German rider, Fabienne Lütkemeier on D’Agostino who she relegated to second place.

The Dutch team scored a total of 215.737%, exceeding the score of eternal rival Germany (208.368%) by more than 7%.

In the individual ranking Lotje Schoots leads followed by Fabienne Lütkemeier and the second Dutch rider, Marrigje van Baalen on BMC Don Cardinale ranking third.

The Dutch coach, Tineke Bartels says: “Having seen our four riders ride their tests, we have seen four highlights. I’m so proud of each of them. Together with their individual trainers and the Rabobank Talents Development project, we were able to realize a fantastic improvement in the youth sport in the Netherlands. This gold medal has been the result of all these efforts.”
