Karen Healey Stables Has Memorable Weekend with Three Best Rider Awards at Memorial Day Classic Horse Show

Karen Healey Stables celebrated Memorial Day weekend with top awards at the Memorial Day Classic Horse Show at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, California. During the competition, held from May 25-29, 2006, the riders at Karen Healey Stables added numerous ribbons to their impressive collection.

Hannah Selleck won the title of Best Junior Rider after winning the Equitation 16-17 Championship and topping the leader board in the $5,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic with her horse Bauer. She was also Small Junior Hunter Champion aboard Cooper, whom she rode for trainer Jeff Katz and owner Lisa Miller. In addition, Selleck took home the blue ribbon in the L.A.H.S.A./Dominion Saddlery Junior Medal and was second overall in the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) Equitation class.

The Best Pony Rider award was presented to Skylar Nelson, who was the Pony Equitation Champion, the WIHS Pony Equitation winner, and also won a Medium Pony class on Carlye Byron-Nelson’s Macy Grey, which was the first time she had shown the pony. She won two classes in the Small Pony division on Magic Formula and earned good ribbons while catch riding Minnie Me, owned by Earl Jacques and Rebecca Hunter.

Yvette Lang-Einczing won the award for Best Adult Rider after her impressive championship for the Equitation 36 and Older division and her win in the Adult Amateur Hunter Classic on Holly Hansen’s horse Jaded. She also took the top spot in the L.A.H.S.A./Dominion Saddlery Senior Medal and was reserve champion in the Adult Amateur 36-50 Hunter division with her mount Corland.

The Equitation Team Challenge was won by Michelle Morris and her teammates Dan Silverstein and Justin Felton. Morris won a new Razor Scooter, which she gave to her injured groom Javi. The second place team was Kasey Ament, Shelby Wakeman, and Yvette Lang-Einczig, who are all Karen Healey students. The two teams were originally tied for first, and final placings were determined after a work off.

Michelle Morris, who was first in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search at the Gold Coast horse show and second in the L.A.H.S.A./Dominion Saddlery Junior Medal, was fourth this week in the USEF Hunter Seat Meda, fourth in the L.A.H.S.A./Dominion Saddlery Junior Medal and first in the Equitation 14-15 on the flat.

Alexandra Conforti won the W.C.E. Junior/Amateur Medal and was third in the CPHA Foundation Equitation class. She also finished third in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search. Shelby Wakeman won the WIHS Equitation class and was fourth in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search on Arwen Stables’ San Francisco. She was also second in the CPHA Foundation Equitation and second in the Equitation 14-15 under saddle class.

Other Karen Healey students who had a successful weekend include Stephanie Mazer, who was recognized as the Equitation 18-35 Champion, Lauren Kay and her mount Santino, who won the Amateur-Owner Hunter Classic and were also champions of the Amateur-Owner Hunter division, and Kristi Siam, who won the Foxfield Medal class and the USEF Adult Equitation. Kasey Ament was third in the 1.40m with Rose Carver’s Uniek. Yasmine Abdallat, a new student of Healey’s, earned consistent ribbons in the Modified Junior/Amateur Jumpers with her own horse Team Harmony’s More Glory.
