A new summer-long series of major jumper competitions is slated to debut in Kentucky, with the first of the seven events scheduled for the Kentucky Spring Horse Show. The $30,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic Grand Prix will kick off this series on Thursday, May 11, 2006. The Hagyard Challenge Series, featuring $170,000 in prize money, will continue the following Thursday at the Kentucky Spring Classic. The Hagyard Challenge Series will run throughout the summer at the Horse Park. The final event, the $50,000 CSI-W Lexington, at the Kentucky National Indoor Horse Show on September 22, 2006, is a U.S. East Coast League World Cup Qualifier.
“We are thrilled to have Hagyard Equine Medical Institute on board with us here,” said Show Manager Hugh Kincannon. “They are one of the most respected veterinary clinics in the world, and they are right across the street from the Horse Park. They have provided vet services over the years to a number of the horse shows here, and now we’re formalizing that relationship. We are just delighted to have them involved with us.”
For more than 125 years, the veterinarians of Hagyard-Davidson-McGee Associates, PLLC, have dedicated themselves to the health and well-being of the horse. Founded in Central Kentucky in 1876 by Edward T. Hagyard, DVM, the firm has long stood for excellence in veterinary medicine. Its reputation is built, in part, on a continued effort to increase veterinary knowledge and thereby improve the state-of-the-art treatments and surgeries offered to its diverse equine clientele which represent international breeding operations, world-renowned race horses, as well as 3-day eventers, show jumpers and pleasure horses.
The sponsorship of the Hagyard Challenge Series goes hand in hand with the launch of their new Sport Horse Program in Lexington. The new program will be under the direction of well-respected FEI-certified equine veterinarian Duncan Peters, DVM, MS.
Known worldwide for its veterinary expertise in equine reproduction and other aspects of the Thoroughbred horse racing industry, Hagyard recognized the need to provide an equally high level of service to the rapidly growing horse show community.
“Right across the road at the Kentucky Horse Park we’ve seen the horse show industry grow to 66 major horse events per year at that facility alone, including the prestigious Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, the only Four Star Three-Day Event held in the Americas,” offered Hagyard CEO Andrew R. Clark, DVM, MBA.
“Our new sport horse program incorporates comprehensive services that will extend beyond the Commonwealth to serve clients competing across the country, from Florida to California and beyond,” said Clark. ”Few are better suited to run this program than Dr. Peters, and we are honored to welcome him aboard.”
An avid, lifelong horseman, Dr. Peters specializes in performance horse management programs and therapies that keep equine athletes healthy and at the top of their game. “With the numerous resources available at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, and the expertise of its 40-plus veterinarians, we are in a unique position to build an excellent program,” said Peters. “I look forward to working with Hagyard to provide only the very best service possible.” Hagyard Equine Medical Institute is one of the oldest and largest equine veterinary practices in the world. Founded in 1876, Hagyard offers a staff with qualifications unparalleled by any single non-university veterinary group in the equine industry.
The original practice, founded in 1876, grew until Dr. Hagyard’s nephew, Dr. Charlie Hagyard, was joined by Drs. Arthur Davidson and William R. McGee. This newly formed partnership provided the equine industry with a veterinary establishment that could offer several talented veterinarians working as one, to provide the highest quality of equine healthcare.
Today, this philosophy and practice continues at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. With more than 40 veterinarians and a well-educated, experienced staff of support personnel all contributing a variety of specialties and interests, Hagyard is able - on a regular basis - to achieve superior results.
The talent of Hagyard’s veterinarians and dedication of its staff provide to client and patients alike a level of care unequaled anywhere in the equine industry.
“I’m confident that this Thursday series will be very popular with our exhibitors this year,” Kincannon added. “I think you’ll see much more as this relationship continues to grow and develop.”
