Del Mar National Horse Show’s Night of the Horse to feature dazzling equine acts

Spectacular horse and rider performances will fill the Del Mar Arena during Night of the Horse presented by Mary’s Tack & Feed Saturday, April 22, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

This is the featured event of the Western portion of the Del Mar National Horse Show. Western Week runs April 20-23, and includes events such as trail, western pleasure, reining, speed events and much more.

The featured act during “Night of the Horse” will be the return of Tommie Turvey Jr. and his amazing paint horse, Pokerjoe. Turvey last performed at the Del Mar National to a delighted audience at the 2004 Night of the Horse. He is a second-generation horse trainer who was born at Camp Pendleton and who now lives in Illinois. Pokerjoe travels over 100,000 miles a year performing in front of thousands of people, “upstaging” Tommie in the “Riding Instructor” comedy act.

Night of the Horse also will feature many other equestrian acts, and is a great evening of entertainment for horse lovers of all ages. Also on the schedule are the Mane Event Drill Team, American Rock with Erik Martonovich Roman Riding, Fiesta of the Spanish Horses, Mules Wild West Show and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Vaulting (pictured above). Musical entertainment starts at 5:30PM featuring Hill Country, the official band of hit country radio station KSON 97.3 FM.

Tickets for Night of the Horse are $17.00 and are on sale now through Ticketmaster, at Mary’s Tack and Feed in Del Mar and San Juan Capistrano, and at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Equestrian Office, Monday through Friday, 10:00AM to 5:00PM. Please call (858) 792-4288. Much more information is available at the show’s website, www.delmarnational.com.
