Equestrian Social Media Award

A small Eastern Ontario riding stable has been named alongside several internationally-recognized equestrian names as a finalist in an international competition that recognizes use of social media in promoting equines businesses.

Thistle Ridge Stables is a top ten finalist in three categories. The Equestrian Social Media Awards competition is sponsored by Abbey View Equine of Manchester England. (http://www.abbeyviewequine.com/awards) Thistle Ridge owner Laura Kelland May was named in the Best Use of Facebook category, a finalist in the Most Informative category as well as the Best Newcomer category alongside such names as natural horsemanship guru Pat Parelli and Thehorse.com, a popular website for equine enthusiasts.

Kelland May founded Thistle Ridge Skill Builders, a series of horse show clinics to develop local horse talent a decade ago and opened a Facebook Page two years ago. She developed it to communicate with students and riders who want to develop their horsemanship and continues to post videos, comments and advice for riders.

Kelland May is a Senior Equine Canada Judge, Recognized Steward and freelance riding coach. She has officiated all levels of equestrian horse shows from local events, to international horse shows. She is an active member of several online mastermind groups such as Equine Marketing Made Easy and has been interviewed online as part of the Equine Tele-seminar series.

Kelland May says she was surprised to be nominated alongside such well-known entities in the equine industry. “Considering all the international companies and trainers that have also been identified, it is wonderful to have the support of my students and colleagues and be recognized for my input into the equestrian community”.

The winner in each category will be determined by votes. On-line voting for the finalist will take place between January 24th and February 18th.

    What a surprise to get nominated, be a top 10 finalist and now have this written about Thistle Ridge Skill Builders.

    Thank you for taking the time to post this on your HunterJumper News site. The Equestrian Social Media Awards has been an interesting process. It has brought the time honored horse and rider into the twenty first century.

    It has been an incredible month. Being a Top 10 finalist in the Equestrian Social Media awards has quadrupled the visits to my facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/thistleridgeskillbuilders) and has brought new subscribers to my blog (http://www.hunterjudgecanada.com). I have also made fast friends with new people and have had some excellent publicity.
