Every moment is special in Aachen

The President of the International Equestrian Federation, FEI, Princess Haya of Jordan is looking forward to an exceptional World Equestrian Games 2006 in Aachen (August 20th - September 3rd, 2006). “Simply every moment is special in Aachen. We will experience excellent sport at an extraordinary tournament venue. Aachen has been representing equestrian sport for generations,” commented Princess Haya to numerous journalists shortly before the official Opening Ceremony (3 p.m. in the main stadium). “We have worked hard for the last four years so that for the first time in the history of the World Equestrian Games all seven disciplines can be easily reached on foot,” explained Klaus Pavel, President of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), the organisers of the WEG.

And even if 430,000 tickets have already been sold, Michael Mronz, member and spokesman of the WEG OC had some good news for late decision-makers: “We still have tickets for some of the competitions.” These can be obtained from the ticket hotline on +49-(0)241-917-1111 and from the ticket centre at the show grounds. The competitions start on Monday with the endurance ride covering 160 kilometres through Aachen, the Netherlands and Belgium. “One thing is important for us as the organisers: The horses play the main role. Their well-being lies close to our hearts,” the Tournament Director and member of the WEG OC, Frank Kemperman, stated.

The FEI World Equestrian Games in seven disciplines - show-jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, vaulting and reining - are the second largest sporting event in Germany this decade. 500,000 visitors, 800 competitors and 900 horses are expected in Aachen over the two weeks of the WEG. In addition, TV broadcasts will be transmitted to 157 countries, among others by renowned channels such as the BBC, NBC and the Chinese channel CCTV.
