NICOLE HUSKY IS HOT AT GOLD COAST 5

Burbank, California. Nicole Husky was hot during Gold Coast 5 show (July 21-23) held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Despite the hot temperatures, Husky kept her cool and won three major medal classes. She started off by capturing the WCE Junior/Amateur Medal and then followed it with a win in the USEF Talent Search. She capped the day by winning the USEF Junior Medal. Husky plans to contest all of the major medal finals this fall, including a trip back east. “I’m really looking forward to all the medal finals,” said Husky “and especially to going back east.”

Husky is also in the lead for the Gold Coast Series in Equitation 15-17. Riders accrue points in over 30 hunter, jumper and equitation divisions toward series awards that will be presented at Gold Coast 7 (October 20-23), the final show of the 2006 series. Many riders like the Gold Coast Series because the seven show series allows them to compete for a championship award without having to show at the many shows required of a year end award.

Taylor Harris is well on her way to winning a Gold Coast award in Children’s Hunters. She piloted Encore to the show championship at Gold Coast 5 and is leading the series. Anne Marie Mueller won dual championships at Gold Coast 5 in Adult Amateur Hunters and “B” Amateur Hunters aboard her Promises to Keep. The pair are leading the “B” Amateur Hunter series and are standing third in the Adult Amateur Hunters. Mueller also rode La Cora to a 2nd in the HBO Adult Medal.

Trainer Mark Purcell made a clean sweep of the Pre-Green division aboard Rio’s Splash. The lovely chestnut won both over fences classes and the hack. Owner Sarah Robin took over the ride in the Children’s Hunters and earned prizes in her classes.

Pony rider Tara Spencer clinched champion in two sections, Child Pony Hunters and Green Pony Hunters, on her pony Batman. Nine year old Spencer was even more excited as she won all the classes in each section. She was also asked to catch ride Claim to Fame and she piloted the Small pony to reserve championships behind her own pony.

Twelve year old Michelle Golden is the daughter of a trainer, Julie Golden, and like most kids of trainers she has to ride a lot of green horses. Golden debuted her own young horse, Fairmont, at Gold Coast 5 and tied for champion in the Hopeful Jumpers with Dauntless and Lundsay Mynott. Golden was thrilled with her young horse’s performance. “He is so fun and he tries really hard.” Golden hopes to be able to contest the Onondarka Finals in November if she can find a suitable horse to ride.
