Kentucky Horse Park to Host this year’s Pony Championships

You can just imagine how fierce the competition can get when champions compete against champions. That’s just what we’ll have taking place here at the Kentucky Horse Park when we welcome the USEF National Pony Finals, Aug 9-13.
The Pony Finals is the most prestigious and celebrated event of its kind in the United States because the finest Hunter Jumper ponies in the country and their riders compete against each other.

To qualify to participate in this show, each pony has to have already won a championship in an A-rated competition.

This year’s championships include the Adequan/USEF National Pony Jumper Championship Individual, the Adequan/USEF National Pony Jumper Championship Team, USEF Pony Medal Final presented by Far Niente Stables, 2006 Wild Horsefeathers/USEF National Green Hunter Pony Championship, and the 2006 Wild Horsefeathers/USEF National Hunter Pony Championship.

The Hunter Pony Championships judge the pony’s conformation, way of moving under saddle and jumping ability. The Pony Medal Final tests young riders in head-to-head competition, judging their equitation and ability to compete over a technical course of fences. The championship event hosts more than 300 riders and their talented ponies, Photo © WildHorsefeathers as well as interested spectators and families.

The American Hunter Pony Classic is an elite hunter pony auction that will be held in our indoor arena. Ponies will be available for inspection, and the performance demonstrations will take place on August 8 with the auction on August 9.

In addition to the athletic competition, other important awards will be presented including the Buttons ‘n’ Bows Sportsmanship Trophy for the junior rider who best personifies the high standards and virtues of integrity, sportsmanship, honor, courage, good temper and unselfishness.

We hope you’ll bring your family to the USEF National Pony Finals. It’s included with park admission and I guarantee you’ll appreciate the beautiful ponies, the skilled riders, and the wonderful competitive spirit of both. You might also find this to be a great opportunity to introduce your children to a sport they will enjoy for a lifetime!
