Ireland’s Cian O’Connor wins Basel GP with Rancorrado

Sunday, 17 January 2026 - Thirty-year-old Cian O’Connor (IRE) won Sunday’s four-star Basel Grand Prix with Aileen Bryan’s gelding Rancorrado.
From a starting field of 45, O’Connor was one of four riders who made the jump-off , O’Connor was last to go in the final competition of the day and was clear on the fences but incurred a time fault. No other rider in the jump-off managed a faultless ride
O’Connor had a total of three wins at the Swiss venue this weekend, two of them on the Irish-bred Irish Independent Echo Beach, as well as a runner-up spot on Splendour. Those wins gave him the show’s Leading Rider award.
Irish Show Jumping Team Manager Robert Splaine said: ‘This has been a fantastic week for Irish show jumping and a great start for the sport in 2010.’
