Ottawa, Ontario — Jump Canada has named Georgia Young the CAVALOR ‘Athlete of the Month’ for December.
Young of Calgary, AB, represented Canada at the 2009 FEI Children’s Jumping Final held December 11-18 at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Based on her results over two qualifying rounds, Young was among the top 14 riders from a starting field of 28 that advanced to the Final. There, Young incurred five faults riding Le Verdy de la Cavee, an 11-year-old selle français gelding, to place ninth overall.
Young qualified to attend the FEI International Jumping Children’s Final, which is an international competition for show jumping competitors aged 12 to 14, by winning the western Canadian qualifier held at Calgary’s Rocky Mountain Classic Week II in August. At the FEI Children’s Final, foreign riders compete on borrowed horses supplied by the host country.
“I am so appreciative of this honour,” said Young, 14, who trains with 1986 World Show Jumping Champion, Gail Greenough. “I hope winning this award will encourage other young Canadians to participate in the FEI Children’s Jumping qualifiers in Canada and, if possible, at the Final competition, because it was such an amazing experience.”
Young added, “I would also like to thank CAVALOR for sponsoring the ‘Athlete of the Month’.”
As the CAVALOR ‘Athlete of the Month’ for December, Young receives a gift certificate from title sponsor CAVALOR Inc.
