Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, ON, won the Individual Gold Medal in show jumping on Sunday, July 29, at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking the first time in 24 years that a woman has claimed the honour. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—The last of the three equestrian disciplines contested at the XV Pan American Games – show jumping – wrapped up at Deodoro Military Complex outside of Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. The final results were cause for celebration for Canada and Brazil. Pan Am Games - The top six spots in Show Jumping were devided between Canada and Brazil as strong performances by those riders eliminated the USA from medal contention. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—It was a battle between the host country—Brazil—and the teams from Canada and the United States for the team show jumping medal today at Deodoro Stadium outside Rio de Janeiro. Fittingly, it was the host country’s most popular equestrian athlete—Rodrigo Pessoa—that was the last to go in the two-round series of Nations Cup jumping that sealed the deal for a Team Gold medal. Rio de Janeiro—Some 47 Pan American Games show jumpers entered the arena at Deodoro Stadium outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Thursday morning to begin the first of two days of team competition. Leading the way for Team USA was rider Lauren Hough aboard Casadora. The last of the four to go was Todd Minikus and Pavarotti. RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL Ian Millar, of Perth, Ontario, took the first step today towards reaching a lofty Olympic goal. In today’s first leg of Pan American Games show jumping competition, the speed phase, only one out of 47 starters was able to negotiate the course faster than 60-year-old Millar on In Style. That entry was his team-mate and former student, Jill Henselwood, of Oxford Mills, Ontario, on Special Ed. Little Pony Teddy & Karen O’Connor Earn Double Gold at 2007 Pan Am Games
We may have thought that the Dressage was as good as it gets but the Eventers showed just how good it can get for their three phase event of dressage, cross country and show jumping. Our riders started out at the top and except for a little bit of “musical medals” when it was all over the U.S. won the Team Gold and three of our six riders claimed the Individual Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
