Bridgehampton, NY—August 29, 2006—Olympic Medalists swept the top three places in the $5,000 Jaguar 1.35m Open Jumper Class at the 31st Annual Hampton Classic Horse Show.
Finishing first was Chris Kappler of Pittstown, NJ, winner of team Gold and individual Silver Medals at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, who drove into the top spot with the fastest clear round. Kappler finished in a time of 52.70 seconds, riding Rivell C, owned by Allyson Hawkes. (More…)
Aachen, Germany — Canadian Show Jumping Team member Eric Lamaze is in second place following the opening day of competition on Tuesday, August 29, at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.
In the opening speed round, where the objective is to leave all of the jumps up in the fastest time, Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, was the 84th of 116 competitors to attempt the challenging track set by renowned course designer Frank Rothenberger of Germany. (More…)
Aachen, Germany— The first qualifier and speed class for the individual and team FEI World Championships in show jumping has ended, and the 16 efforts put in front of the 116 show jumpers going round were a bit more than a few could handle. And for Team U.S.A., there were few bumps along the road translating into less than a handful of downed rails in a windy Main Stadium. Team USA in 2nd place behind the Netherlands in a tight race.
After the first show-jumping competition of the FEI World Equestrian Games at the Aachen Soers, the top 6 teams are extremely close.
Team USA had strong performances from Beezie Madden and Authentic who led all riders with no faults in a time of 77.62. McLain Ward was also one of the twelve who managed a clear ride on Sapphire. His time of 79.35 earned him 4th place in the individual standings. (More…)
Jumping made its spectacular entrance on the sporting scene of the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games. The winner of the speed competition – one of four part of the World Championship programme – is Beezie Madden (USA) aboard Authentic (77.62 time faults – 0 points). Eric Lamaze (CAN) on Hickstead is second (78.40 time penalties – 0.39 points) and Gerco Schröder (NED) on Eurocommerce Berlin is third (78.47 time penalties – 0.43 points). (More…)
Humility (noun) – the quality or state of being humble.
So many of our sports stars today seem to lack in humility. Just look at the major leagues and you can see, time and again, examples of bloated egos and really rotten attitudes. And, when I do see one display humility, I sit back almost aghast…as if it was something foreign. I think to myself in a cynical way, “Okay, what are they getting out of it?” Not a good thing. (Aachen, Germany) – It all came down to one minute. It was years in the making, but it came down to one minute in Aachen, Germany, and when that one minute was over, 18-year-old Megan Benjamin of Saratoga, CA, was the first female American vaulter ever to take a world championship. For the past 20 years, a German woman has always held the title of World Champion, and Germany has also won 23 of the last 30 world championships.
