German team takes the lead in the Grand Prix

Heike Kemmer, an ALVR PhotoAfter the first half of the Grand Prix, the German dressage team is holding a comfortable lead of almost five percent. Heike Kemmer achieved the best result of the day (75.792 percent) with her 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding, Bonaparte, in the Nation’s Cup, the team classification. Hubertus Schmidt had already “contributed” to the result in the morning with a score of 69.208 percent. (More…)

The consensus is that today’s championship served as the biggest in the sport’s interesting development and history, and the fact that temperatures didn’t make it much past the mid-60 degree range were a blessing to those who had feared that the heat that Germany saw weeks ago might wreak havoc in a sport where weather conditions can send the placings into a scramble. Two young French ladies join him on the podium: Virginie Atger, 22, on Kangoo d’Aurabelle in silver and Elodie Le Labourier, 24, on Sangho’Limousian in bronze. The arena of Stal Tops morphed into a madhouse when VDL Groep team rider Leopold van Asten won Sunday’s VDL Groep Grand Prix at CSI5* Valkenswaard. Acting as the fifth leg of the Global Champions Tour, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide, the Grand Prix saw a total of 50 riders attempt the 1.60m track set by course designer Christa Jung (GER). Of the 18 riders who returned for the second round, 10 had been clear in the first round. Half of them again managed to be clear to advance to the all-deciding jump-off. (More…)
