(Aachen, Germany) – It all came down to one minute. It was years in the making, but it came down to one minute in Aachen, Germany, and when that one minute was over, 18-year-old Megan Benjamin of Saratoga, CA, was the first female American vaulter ever to take a world championship. For the past 20 years, a German woman has always held the title of World Champion, and Germany has also won 23 of the last 30 world championships. Together with the German eventing team she had just claimed the gold medal at the World Championships - so they finally managed to deliver the sporting response to Athens. Zara Phillips, the granddaughter of the British Queen, secured the individual title on Sunday afternoon.

Anky van Grunsven (NED) and Keltec Salinero are the new World Dressage Freestyle Champions with a breathtaking result of 86.5%. A much deserved and applauded silver medal goes to Denmark’s Andreas Helgstrand and his grey nine-year old mare Blue Hors Matine (81,5%). It was Rüdiger Schwarz’s day. The Warendorf-based German course builder, who designed the WEG course celebrated the biggest success of his career as a course designer.
