Michael Walton and LaRocco Junior take Sunday’s PJA Grand Prix

September 11, 2025

The PJA (Pennsylvania Jumper Association) held their first ever $25,000.00 grand prix during their 35th annual horse show on September 10th at the historic Quentin Riding Club in Quentin, Pa.

This is the third year they have run their new two day, one ring, all jumper format and the exhibitors turned out in record numbers to show their approval. There was a starting field of 30 horses to compete over the 14 jumping effort first round set by veteran course designer John Rush of Jacksonville, Fl. The two tiered pavilion on the east side of the ring was packed with spectators and exhibitors enjoying the thrills and spills of first round action. Ten horses and 9 riders (Tracy Magness qualifying 2) moved on to the jump off.

Course designer John Rush raised 3 of the 7 jumps to 4′11″ for the tie breaker; 1st to go was Amanda Flint on “Quelle Damma Van De Heffinck” having 4 faults and a time of 39.263 secs, next was Daniel Damen riding his own “Jewel Thief” to a clean round in 35.818 secs to take the early lead. Robin Fairclough came in on Top Brass Farms “Patriot” going clean in 36.993 secs to move in to second, Kirk Webby riding the Tolleshunt entry “Sitah” put in a fast and clean ride in 33.836 secs to go right to the top of the class, but not for long, because next in the ring was Michael Walton riding the Penlyn Farm entry “La
Rocco Junior” to a blazing clean round in 33.685 secs for the lead with 5 horses left to go.

Tracy Magness riding the first of her 2 mounts ” Tarco Van Ter Moude” went clean but not quite fast enough in 34.339 secs to move in to 3rd; then moving up in the order to give Tracy more time and hot off their Monmouth Grand Prix victory Hugo Huesca riding the very fast “Siempre” put in the best time of the day 33.495 secs but unfortunately had 4 faults at 6A to move in to 6th place. Also moving up riding Anne Hamilton’s “Elliot” was Seth Vallhonrat putting in a steady clean ride in 41.591 secs to take over 6th place. Tracy returned on her 2nd ride on “Pax Mundi” but after having two rails down decided to withdraw and went to 9th place. Last to go was speed demon Jimmy Torano on his newly acquired “Lerona”, he was on the pace, but unfortunately 4 faults at the 4′11″ rustic rail vertical placed him 8th. Michael was very pleased with his 9-year-old German bred gelding’s victory since he has just started showing him this year in Grand Prix and was delighted that his owner Peter Nissin was there for the celebration.
